My daughter read this at age 11 and enjoyed the book immensely. She went straight to the library and checked out the sequel when this one was finished. Yes! There is a sequel! :o)

from my 10 and 11 year old daughters: "This book is so good! The subject matter was hard to read sometimes but it really showed how God is always with us and that was really cool!"

Bruchko is one of the best books I have read in my entire life. It is the true story of Bruce Olson (a.k.a. Bruchko), a 19-yr-old American boy who leaves his home in Minnesota to evangelize the Motilone Indians, a murderous tribe who lives in the jungles of South America.
Bruce survives through all kinds of difficulties, including being shot arrows, suffering boredom, is frequently sick, and almost dies several times. The perseverence of Bruce Olson is very amazing.
I loved this book and would definitely recommend it as a read-aloud. Although there is nothing wrong with it being a reader, I have to admit that the story's brutality and violence was almost too much for me. Bruchko was definitely the most influential person about whom I ever read. -Gabriel (9 yrs old)

Sorry, we didn't care for this book at all. Tried with my first son, then tried 3 years later with the second son. Won't try it again. Poorly written (my opinion).

We would definitely recommend this book... and we have. Daddy has read it, and Grandpa too. A neighbor is next on the list. The first chapter or so were hard to get into, and then... Wow! What a great inspirational story, and true, too! The perseverance of Bruce Olson (aka - Bruchko) is so wonderful. Need a role model for your children? Here is a great one! This is a gripping story with so many lessons for life in it. A must-read! (Our kids are 8 and 10 years old)

This is a valuable book, however I did not feel it was appropriate for my Core 4 9-year old daughter. Two or three years more maturity is needed to process the brutal reality of this subject matter. I would encourage anyone to pre-read this before assigning it to your children.

I can hardly believe that I didn't want to read this book at first. So good! Shows you just how much the love of God can accomplish through those committed to serving Him and honoring the culture of the people they are witnessing to.
