The adventures of eleven-year-old Caddie growing up with her six brothers and sisters in the Wild West frontiers of Wisconsin in the late 1800s.
Indians, raging rivers, massacre scares, loving family life are all here. Caddie helps keep peace between the Indians and settlers. She is one of my favorite heroines.

Another of our favorites from this Core. When they say Caddie Woodlawn is a spunkier Laura Ingalls they're not kidding! We still quote, "If at first you don't fricasse, fry, fry a hen!"

Caddie Woodlawn, by Carol Ryrie Brink, is one of my favorite books this year. The story is set in 1865 Wisconsin, and is based on the life of Caddie Woodhouse. In the story, Caddie will not try to be a young lady like her mother wants. Then her father helps her realize that being a young lady is about character, not giving up her playing and freedom. When a big decision comes her way, can she decide what would be best for the Wooodlawns forever? Some of my favorite parts are when Caddie's brother Tom becomes sweet on Katie Hyman. He buys the biggest, prettiest, and most expensive valentine and gives it to her. I like this book because it is funny, exciting, and leaves you in suspense. Everybody should read this book. by Rachel, age 9

I love the book Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Brink. If you like adventurous books, you would like Caddie Woodlawn.
This book takes place in Wisconsin during the Civil War. At the beginning of the story, Caddie and two of her brothers cross a lake to go see some Indians. As you can see Caddie is an adventurous girl. That causes some problems throughout the story. Caddie plays tricks on her ladylike cousin. Then her parents punish her and her dad tells her to be more ladylike. That is when her sisters teach Caddie how to quilt.
In conclusion Caddie becomes more ladylike. I really enjoyed this book. It was really hard to put down once you pick it up. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

How does an energetic red-haired girl keep the peace between Indians and villagers? You can find out and read more about this girl in Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink . It is a it is a story about an eleven year old girl growing up in Wisconsin in 1864.
Caddie and her family had fun times together, but sometimes they had bad times, too. One time her brother Warren dared Caddie to skate on black ice . But the ice cracked and she fell in, almost drowned, and got a bad cold . She had to stay in bed for a while, but she got better and could finally go back to school .
I like this book because you never know what adventures Tom, Caddie, and Warren are going to have next . I recommend this book because it is well-written, exciting, and fun!

I read this last year to my daughters, aged 10, 7, and almost 6, and they absolutely loved it. Another reviewer is correct-- Caddie Woodlawn is better than the Little House books!

Kept my 12, 10, and 7 yo kids' attention. The two youngest (a boy and a girl) never wanted me to stop reading it!
