Awaken your children to the exciting and complex make-up of our earth. Students in the Science C program study historical and mechanical technology (how things are made); geology (rocks and minerals); Meteorology (weather); biology (plants, animals, babies and habitats); and microscopy. Students will return again to study each and every one of these topics in later years.

The Usborne Book of Knowledge serves as the key book for Science C. But you'll also enjoy a biography of Marie Curie, a colorful book devoted to weather, and a vastly informative yet readable Usborne book, Planet Earth and two zany "Magic School Bus" books (part of the Five-Day package). You will also study origins with the excellent text, Dinosaurs Unleashed.

The 30 primary experiments this year deal with weather (meteorology), the human body, and batteries (electricity). Remember--you have all the experiment instructions, a DVD showing each one in action, and all but the most common experiment supplies you'll need included with your Science C package and the Non-Consumable Science Kit!

We are enjoying all the books included in this program. The IG is very helpful and the worksheets are fun. My daughter is 8 1/2 and sometimes the questions are a tad too difficult for her, but we talk it out and she gets the main idea. All in all, we love it and we are excited about science every day! I love the mix of selected experiments, too. Before this, we were not doing experiments because it was too much for me to come up with on my own. I love getting all the supplies in one nice, neat box! This is a great mix of a variety of books and subjects and we are never, ever bored. We love the extra suggestions in the IG, too. I look forward to next year!

What a fun, interesting and exciting introduction to the world of science! My 8 yr. old daughter's favorite day of the week is Friday - experiment day. As noted in the catalog, this program provides an overview of science - not requiring mastery but familiarity. That's a perfect fit for our family and we don't plan to start systematic scientific study for a few years. The Magic School Bus books present Evolutionary theory as fact - no surprise - but the books are wonderful. We enjoy the television program and simply discuss points of contention when we come to them. Also as noted on the Website, the experiments in Science Activities aren't nearly as dramatic in practice as they are illustrated in the book, but worthwhile nonetheless. Our favorite part of the program is the Discover & Do DVD. Super! My children like to watch the DVD during "non-school" hours. Is this a necessary part of your curriculum? Probably not. You can do the same thing with nature walks and trips to the library. That said, it's a nice addition to our homeschool program and we'll continue to include Sonlight science in our annual budget.
