I just switched to Singapore from Saxon this year, here are my thoughts:
Pros: The curriculum really makes the kids think about math from many different perspectives and helps them to understand the "why" of math not just the process.
Cons: I HATE the fact the answer key does not have the problems worked out, it is just the answer. I have found a few mistakes but only after wasting time trying to figure out how they reached an answer. The strategies used to explain and solve the problems are excellent for teaching reasoning but they are not intuitive. Often I find myself working through the problem "my" way then teaching it "their way". VERY FRUSTRATING!!!
I am considering returning to Saxon for this reason alone

My boys have just finished 5A and are starting out on 5B. We love this program because it makes math intuitive. We tend not to use the text book until we get stuck at a problem, when I quickly look at how it should be solved and show them. Perhaps we should do all the sums in text for practice, but I tend to move on to the next exercise once I know they understand the concept.
