The 100 Most Important Events in Christian History
pp. 180-183; 183-185
Your authors note that Barth's Commentary on Romans has been called "a bombshell on the liberal theologians' playground." Can you imagine—or discover—why? (here's one potential answer: liberal theologians of his day were teaching that the Scriptures are simply a record of human religious experiences and religious beliefs down through the centuries; Barth claimed that in Scripture we find "divine thought about men, not human thoughts about God"—so the Bible is truly a revelation from God; yet he still doubted historical validity of the Bible)
Your authors give a different explanation than that included in The Story of Christianity concerning how and why neo-orthodoxy is called "crisis theology." What is their explanation? (they suggest it is crisis theology because it requires an existential "leap of faith" to believe in two or more apparently contradictory truths)
Please note that the U.S. time zones listed on the Markable Map are incorrect. We apologize for any confusion this error may have caused. The following are the correct time zones for the United States:
Eastern Time (GMT-5) 7pm
Central Time (GMT-6) 6pm
Mountain Time (GMT-7) 5pm
Pacific Time (GMT-8) 4pm
Alaska Time (GMT-9) 3pm
Hawaii Time (GMT-10) 2pm
Note that Arizona, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa do not follow Daylight Savings Time. During Standard Time, Arizona is at the same time as Mountain Time. During Standard Time, Hawaii is 2 hours behind Pacific Time, but during Daylight Savings Time it is 3 hours behind Pacific Time. (7/2009)
