Twenty-nine true missionary stories from around the world. Almost all are about people who lived and worked during the 20th century. Lots of excitement, miraculous escapes, and some martyrdoms.

Today after reading, my daughters found a jar and started putting all their money into it. They told their siblings that they are saving money to send to people who do not have a Bible in their own language. I am excited to read a book with my kids that just in the introduction, has moved my children's hearts to help others. Thank you!

this is such a wonderful, action packed book!! I get excited reading the stories, and even a little choked up at times. This book would be great at many different reading levels, and it is a book that even grownups would enjoy getting. It is a little scary at times, but it does such a wonderful job of telling the stories truthfully, and understanding what missionaries go through.

My older children have read this book through on their own, for which I'm grateful since being a Christian in too many countries isn't easy. For the younger ones, some of the stories are strong, yet I have found that trying to cut the dragon out of their stories actually only takes out St. George, the Dragon Slayer. They suffer nightmares without any TV, violent stories, nightly news, or other outside sources of scary material. These stories show that God comes through for us in real time, not fantasy.

We just started the book, and I can tell it will grab your heart for missions. Its Awesom! I highly recomend it for Christian families. Some may think it could be somewhat violent, but missionaries do not have it easy it times and if we are preparing our children for service this book is a great tool. We served as missionaries in the prisons for 11 years, and are friends and supporters of 100's of missionaries on the field. These stories touch home.

This is a great book for older children and adults. Some of the stories are WAY too violent for my six year old. One story has a father that is shot to death while his wife and five children watch. I would recommend reading the stories prior to reading them to your child. I question placing this book in Core 1.

On more than one occasion my daughter has retold these stories to her Sunday School class. They have made a big impression on her.

This book was very inspirational -- Yes, some of the stories can be scary to the faint of heart. However, the Bible can be scary -- I must say, this book is really worthwhile -- you can edit some of the stories if you feel they are too much for your family -- Truly, even my adult children found re-newed strength from hearing these true stories of modern heroes of our faith.

AWESOME stories. I laughed, I cried. My boys opened their eyes wide. We've read this once for academics and then twice more just for fun. This is one of my very favorite Sonlight books. Of course it is scary..... we are talking about the kingdoms of heaven and hell at battle here. We didn't feel it was inappropriate though. Rhonda's comment, "faith-affirming" is right on. Girls or boys will love this book but I especially treasure the reaction of my boys. I watched them as I read and saw a new respect sparked for the faith they've been learning by rote in Awanas. They didn't want me to stop reading as they learned how a pilot fended off a lion biting him as he flew, and a young boy keeping his love for Jesus although his father was a witch doctor.

Our family did not care for this book.
It is written from a biased perspective plus the stories are scary.
In place of this book we substituted "Heaven's Heroes" by David Shelby.

This is a wonderful book. My kids and I greatly enjoy this faith-affirming book. The book contains true stories of missionaries--miracles and trials they encountered. I had never heard these stories before. I wish more churches should be teaching these faith-building stories. This is a book which will be greatly enjoyed by Christians of all ages.
