Seven ancient Roman boys become entangled in a fast-paced and humorous, though apparently deadly-serious mystery. Includes some unbiblical practices (example: the boys visit a soothsayer).

My daughters found this a very hard book to get into. The names are hard to read aloud and it seems hard to follow in some ways.

by Elizabeth, age 7. I love Detectives in Togas because it is funny and enjoyable. I think you will love it too. My favorite part was at the end when the teacher said, "Caius you really are a dumbbell!"

Fun book! It's a real mystery. Captures attention very well! Lots of good plot twists. Love it!!

My son 'stole' this book off the shelf to read ahead. Can't say that I blame him - I wanted to do the same thing!

Great fun. One of the first read alouds to really tie in with the history that you are reading about. My ds remembers this on fondly several years later.

I really liked the book, Detectives in Togas. I liked it because it was funny sometimes and not funny sometimes. I also liked the ending where it says "Caius, you really are a dumbbell." I hope you can read the book because it's really fun.

Excellent book. A good deal of cultural information sprinkled in. Some Latin words as well.

A great historical fiction novel. This is an engaging and entertaining way for children to experience Roman life. My children really enjoy mysteries, so that made this book a great book for them. Still, parts of the book are deeper and harder to understand for first graders. The vocab especially can be challenging and make parts of the story hard for children to follow.
